Alan Davies apologises for Hillsborough comments

Comedian Alan Davies apologises for offence caused by his recent comments about Liverpool's refusal to play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

Comedian Alan Davies has apologised to anybody that was offended by comments that he made about Liverpool's refusal to play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

The Reds' policy has meant that their FA Cup semi-final against rivals Everton next weekend will be played on Saturday, April 14, while the other semi-final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will take place a day later - the date of the disaster.

Davies caused outrage from a number of people by questioning Liverpool's refusal to ever play on April 15, claiming that it is unfair on Chelsea, who have a Champions League tie against Barcelona just days later.

As a result, the 46-year-old has now said sorry for any offence that he caused.

"I support the campaign for justice for the 96 [victims]," he wrote on Twitter. "I said the Hillsborough disaster was the worst event in modern peacetime history. I was on a terrace listening to a radio as it happened.

"Many disagree but I feel that the Liverpool v Everton semi-final could be played on Apr 15. Apologies to those upset by that situation."

Davies, an Arsenal supporter, is also believed to have made a £1,000 donation to the Hillsborough Justice Campaign.
