Steven Gerrard believes that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers should replace Roy Hodgson as England boss after Euro 2016.

Steven Gerrard has called for the Football Association to consider his former manager Brendan Rodgers for the England coaching role when Roy Hodgson leaves his post.

Rodgers has been in charge of Liverpool for the last three years, and Gerrard played under the Irishman during that time until deciding to leave Anfield for MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.

Hodgson will lead the Three Lions into the European Championships in France next year, but the 68-year-old's contract with the FA will expire at the end of the tournament.

"Obviously when Roy's had his time - Brendan Rodgers," Gerrard told the Daily Mail. "The way he plays would suit England. He would improve the possession football you need at international level. His man management is brilliant.

"At tournaments, in the heat, it is absolute torture and we need to keep the ball better. If you want someone who would get the team playing and the players would enjoy working with, it would be Brendan."

Gerrard also revealed that he would have stayed at Liverpool had he been offered a coaching position at Anfield.
