Steven Gerrard has admitted that he expected to be a Liverpool player when he retired from football.
The midfielder left his boyhood club earlier this month following a 17-year career at Anfield.
Now, the 35-year-old, who won two FA Cups and the Champions League at Liverpool, is preparing for his MLS debut after joining Los Angeles Galaxy on an 18-month deal.
When asked by Sky Sports News if he thought that he would finish his career on Merseyside, Gerrard said: "Yeah, of course I did, up until November, December last year when I made the announcement when I thought that I needed a new challenge. I just thought both on and off the pitch that [LA Galaxy] ticked all the boxes at this stage of my life."
Gerrard has reiterated that his decision to leave Liverpool was based on manager Brendan Rodgers's plans to limit the midfielder's game time.
