Steven Gerrard: 'It will be a miracle if I win Premier League with Liverpool'

Steven Gerrard concedes that he will not win the Premier League with Liverpool in his career.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he will not be able to win the Premier League title in his career.

The midfielder claims that the emergence of new powers like Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will make it difficult for the Reds to become the champions of England anytime soon.

"It'll be a miracle if we win the title before I finish," Gerrard told The Sunday Times.

"I say that because of my age and the situation with rivalries. The league has become more difficult to win.

"There's not just [Manchester] United and Arsenal now but [Manchester] City, Chelsea and Tottenham. Newcastle are coming as well."

Gerrard added that Liverpool's "realistic" target this season is a top-four finish.

"We were eighth last year," said the 32-year-old. "If this season goes well, we get a bit of luck, improve, we have a 50-50 chance of being in the top four. That's being realistic. It's achievable.

"Even if we do sneak into the top four, I'll be 33 at the end of the season, so that's why it'll be a miracle if we win the title before I finish.

"But I'll keep fighting. I'll keep trying and see what happens."

Gerrard has won the FA Cup twice, the League Cup thrice and the Champions League once with Liverpool.
