Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has said that he wishes Brendan Rodgers had joined the club a decade ago.
Gerrard announced yesterday that he will leave his boyhood club at the end of the season, more than 25 years after he joined the Reds as an eight-year-old.
Rodgers and Gerrard have worked together for two-and-a-half years so far, but the Liverpool skipper believes that they would have won "a lot of titles" had the Northern Irishman arrived at Anfield earlier.
"I wish I'd met Brendan when I was 24 because I think I'd be sitting here talking about a lot of titles that we'd won together," the 34-year-old told the club's official website.
"The reality is, Brendan came into this club when I was 32 years of age and it's a shame that relationship didn't start 10 years ago."
Gerrard has won every major honour with Liverpool apart from the Premier League title.
