Outgoing Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has emerged as a surprise contender to take over at Liverpool.
The Merseysiders have begun their search for a new boss after they sacked Kenny Dalglish on Wednesday evening.
The club have already been given permission to speak with Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez, while they have also targeted Swansea City coach Brendan Rodgers for the role.
Guardiola, who recently said that he would be taking a break from the game at the end of the season, is now being considered as a possible replacement for Dalglish, according to The Mirror.
However, owners Fenway Sports Group are thought to be pessimistic over their chances of landing the 41-year-old.
Guardiola will take charge of Barca for the last time on Saturday, May 25 against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final.
