Thierry Henry: 'Steven Gerrard leaving Liverpool at right time'

Former Arsenal striker Theirry Henry admits that he "would have loved" to have played alongside Steven Gerrard during his career.

Thierry Henry has predicted a smooth transition for Steven Gerrard when the Liverpool midfielder embarks on the next chapter of his football career.

The former England international will end his 25-year stay at Anfield at the end of the season to link up with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Some have suggested that Gerrard should remain in the Premier League, although Henry, who himself spent four years in the United States with New York Red Bulls, believes that the time is right for the Reds skipper to move on.

"I think he is leaving at the right time," he told The Independent. "He is clever enough to adapt over there. Saying that, he will arrive at a team that is already in tune. Trust me, Los Angeles Galaxy have been either winning or losing in the final every single year. They are a very good organisation.

"But Stevie G is Stevie G. It makes me laugh when I see people talking about him the way they have recently. As a midfielder he was – along with Paul Scholes – unstoppable.

"I would have loved to have played alongside him. He is the dream for any striker – ask Torres, ask Suarez, ask any striker who has played alongside him. And he still does it; that through-ball, either along the ground or in the air."

Henry is expected to make his debut as a pundit for Sky Sports during Sunday's top-flight meeting between Manchester City and Arsenal.
