Liverpool owner John Henry has admitted that the Reds have exceeded all of his expectations this season by challenging for the Premier League title.
The Merseyside outfit sit two points ahead of second-placed Chelsea in the table and remain odds-on favourites to win the league crown.
However, Henry claims that qualification to the Champions League was the primary goal at the start of the campaign back in August.
"We had our sights set on a top-four finish because we're building," American Henry told BBC Sport.
"It's a challenge with the way the league is structured, so if we were fortunate enough to win this year, I would say we're ahead of schedule."
Manager Brendan Rodgers can take a step closer to securing the club's first title in 24 years when his charges face Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.
