Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld believes that Luis Suarez's style of play may cost him the Player of the Year award.
Suarez has been in excellent form this season, scoring 29 goals for Liverpool in all competitions.
Hooiveld told The Mirror: "I can understand why people don't vote for Suarez as he divides opinion.
"I am not sure what he has to do to be a better player. He does very well.
"Suarez's style of playing is not always the nicest. He is always a bit on the edge. The Dutch are always very friendly – like me and Robin van Persie."
Southampton face Liverpool at St Mary's Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.
