Liverpool's new number 28 Danny Ings reveals that he doesn't want to take a first-XI number at Anfield until he has achieved success with the Reds.

Liverpool new boy Danny Ings has revealed that he did not want to take one of the first-XI numbers available at Anfield.

Ings will wear the number 28 shirt for the Reds next season, despite first-XI numbers 8 and 11 being currently available.

In an interview with the club website, Ings said that he would take a lower number once he had achieved success with the Merseyside outfit.

"I had a chat with my agent and a few friends and we thought that moving to such a big club like this, you need to take all the pressure off yourself," Ings said.

"Taking one of the low numbers does make a difference, because some of the players that have worn those shirts have been superstars and world-class players. So it was important to start with a high number and my reason is to work my way down.

"When I achieve success here, that's when I'll take a shirt like that. Until then, I'll keep number 28, keep my head down and work hard."

Ings joined Liverpool after the expiration of his Burnley contract, but the two clubs are still yet to reach an agreement over a compensation fee and might need a tribunal to determine the amount.
