Everton defender Phil Jagielka believes that their 14-year winless streak at Anfield in the Merseyside derby is a "very strange" statistic.
The Blues travel to their city rivals Liverpool this afternoon having not won there since 1999, and Jagielka feels that the club can sometimes "try too hard" to shake off the unwanted stat.
"The derby record at Anfield is just very strange. I don't think you can say mentally we were weak, maybe we try too hard in those in games," he told The Telegraph.
"Sunday won't decide silverware, it won't decide who finishes in the top four but we would still like to go to Anfield, win and build on that for next season."
A win for David Moyes's side would see them finish above Liverpool for the second successive season in the Premier League.
