Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool changes for Crystal Palace clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Reds will rotate their starting lineup for Saturday's Premier League contest against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Seeking a third Premier League win on the bounce following 2-0 successes over Everton and Newcastle United, Klopp's team have the chance to move to within four points of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur before the Lilywhites face Chelsea on Sunday.

However, the Reds' upturn in domestic fortunes counted for nought in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League affair against Real Madrid, who thrashed Klopp's team 5-2 at Anfield on Tuesday.

Liverpool were in dreamland when Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah struck inside the opening 15 minutes, but braces for Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema either side of Eder Militao's header to condemn the Reds to their worst-ever home defeat in Europe.

With Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United to come in the next fortnight, Klopp has confirmed that changes will be in the offing as the likes of Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita eye returns to the first XI.

Jota and Firmino were able to make the bench against Real Madrid after recovering from calf injuries, but Klopp has urged caution over the duo and recent hamstring victim Virgil van Dijk, whom he insisted is not a "robot".

"We are not sure if all the boys could even play again after Madrid because of some knocks here and there. We are really not 100 per cent clear so then we have to make changes and we want to make changes and we will make changes anyway," Klopp said at Friday's pre-game press conference.

"We can see now when the boys come on that they are not at their best at the moment but they need the minutes and everything will get better, but that is exactly the situation we have.

"But it is not that you come back after a long injury and just it is clicking again. We have this situation now with Bobby and Diogo, we can see it with Virgil as well.

"Everybody expects Virgil always that he is like a robot pretty much but he played the most games last year, played the World Cup, played every game for his country, came back, from the first second played for us, got injured, comes back [and] plays, plays, plays. So, that's the situation."

"It's already clear that we have to do something in the summer, that's clear, but for now we just have to go through this and fight back."

Liverpool will once again be working without Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz and Calvin Ramsay for the meeting with Palace, while Joe Gomez is a doubt after suffering a hamstring injury against Real Madrid.

Arthur is also yet to make his comeback from thigh surgery, but there is better news regarding Ibrahima Konate, who is now back in full training following a hamstring issue of his own.

However, the Frenchman is unlikely to be risked until he has had more time to build up his fitness, with Klopp adding: "Ibou is near but he has had two sessions after a long injury."

Liverpool sit eighth in the Premier League table with 35 points from their 22 games this season, although Tottenham - who hold a seven-point lead - have played two games more than the Reds. body check tags ::
