Jurgen Klopp content with Liverpool draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that he is "happy" with his side's performance against Southampton despite being held to a goalless draw at St Mary's.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that he is content with his side's goalless draw against Southampton at St Mary's this afternoon.

The Reds dominated for long spells as they looked to make it five wins on the bounce in all competitions, but the Saints held out to ensure that the spoils were shared.

The result means that just two points now separate the top four, but Klopp believes that the proximity of the top teams is a good thing.

"I'm quite happy with the second half. We knew it would be difficult today. They are an organised side. The first half was not bad, but it was not enough. It was good preparation for the second half because we were able to make a few changes in the way we played. We did much better and had chances and moments but did not score," he told BBC Sport.

"Even then you need to fight for draw and that is what we did. We did not lose control which is easy to do after dominating. The attitude was really good. We could have won the game, but in the end I am happy with performance. It was an away game at Southampton and a good performance – with a clean sheet. So yes, happy.

"[The table is tight] not only for us. That is good. All teams are the same. This league is tough and we are here because of this and we like it. Usually you lose in game like this, because body language is such you end doing something different and giving one chance away and they score. When you are ready for work then you deserve the minimum of a draw. Not the best day in our life, but for sure not the worst."

Liverpool, who host Sunderland next weekend, still sit top of the table, but only lead Manchester City on goals scored.
