Jurgen Klopp: 'Roberto Firmino not just a big-game player'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that Roberto Firmino is more than just a big-game player and will become more consistent as he continues to gain experience.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Roberto Firmino is not just a big-game player.

The Brazilian has blown hot and cold during his time at Anfield so far, but has reserved his best performances for matches against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

He scored twice against the latter during the thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield on Wednesday, but Klopp believes that the 24-year-old will become more consistent the more he plays in the false nine role.

"He was at Stoke in a really good moment, so it's not [he only performs] against big teams. I like these matches when a player shows 'I don't care who the opponent is' attitude. He's young enough to do much better and to do it much more often. Roberto needs time, of course. He's settling in better and better," Klopp told reporters.

"Now he has a lot of information for himself: how he should react in this position, what he has to do when he has to be in the box, when he has to not be in the box, when he has to come and play with us and when he has to push the last line back, things like this.

"It's not a position he has played 500 times, so it's all about learning. [Two goals against Arsenal] was a really big step for him and hopefully he can do it again."

Firmino is expected to retain his spot up front when Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
