Jurgen Klopp hits out at Football Association over Jordan Rossiter injury

Jurgen Klopp accuses the Football Association of treating Liverpool's players "like horses" after seeing Jordan Rossiter pick up an injury on international duty.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his disappointment at the Football Association after Jordan Rossiter picked up an injury while on international duty.

The young midfielder, who has featured three times for the Reds this season, recently played three games in the space of five days for England's Under-19s side.

Rossiter returned to Liverpool nursing a hamstring injury, leading to speculation last week that the Merseyside outfit were unhappy with the FA, and Klopp has now confirmed these reports by accusing the governing body of treating his players "like horses".

"Rossiter is a special story I would say," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. "I have never heard that a player that young plays three games in five days. That was the problem and that's why he is injured. Now he is injured and we will have to wait for him because I don't think he's ready until after the next national break.

"I don't know with who I have to talk with about this but I will find a way to talk to somebody about this. Three matches in five days is not OK. We need him in this moment of course, he's young, it would be good for him if he was now with us but he can't. It's too much. Three games in five days, football is 90 minutes, special things you have to use, your muscles and so on.

"If you are young perhaps you are more resistant to things from outside but of course this is not normal – three matches in five days and send him back. These young players are our future, if we handle them like horses, we get horses. We want them to improve and get better and they have time and not too much pressure."

Rossiter was the only player to play all 270 minutes of the Young Lions' most recent outings.
