Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering deploying James Milner as an emergency left-back when the new Premier League season gets underway in a fortnight.
The Reds have been targeting a new first-choice left-back this transfer window following the poor form of Alberto Moreno, and had tabled a £7m bid for Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell instead signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions so Klopp is now considering repositioning Milner, according to The Telegraph, after testing him out in the role during the pre-season friendly with Chelsea earlier this week.
Klopp could still bring in defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes but has previously insisted that he will not rush into panic-buying or over-spending on targets.
Liverpool have spent a net of around £20m on transfers this summer, bringing in the likes of Joel Matip, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum while selling off Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe and Martin Skrtel.
