Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has insisted that signing Christian Benteke would be a "big statement" of intent from the club.
The Reds are poised to sign the Aston Villa forward after meeting his £32.5m buyout clause, and Lallana believes that the powerful frontman would be a great addition to Brendan Rodgers's squad.
The England international told the Liverpool Echo: "Signing Benteke would be a big statement. He is a big presence. He has always scored goals.
"I've read what's been in the press and I think that would be a very strong component for us if he is to arrive."
Benteke would be Liverpool's seventh arrival of the summer, after the club tied up deals for Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings.
