Liverpool have announced that Luis Diaz will be handed the club's number seven shirt for the 2023-24 campaign.
The jersey was most recently in the possession of James Milner, who has sported the seven since making the move to Anfield from Manchester City in 2015.
However, with Milner departing on a free transfer for Brighton & Hove Albion, the seven shirt became vacant, and Colombian attacker Diaz has been bestowed with the jersey for 2023-24.
The former Porto man was given the 23 shirt upon his arrival at Anfield in January 2022, and the Reds have announced that he will personally reimburse fans who have already purchased next season's home kit with his name and the number 23 on the back.
Diaz will follow a long line of esteemed names to have donned the number seven jersey for Liverpool, including Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Steve McManaman and Luis Suarez.
The 26-year-old's 2022-23 campaign was disrupted by a serious knee injury, but he still contributed five goals and three assists from 21 matches across all competitions, starting 11 Premier League games in total.
Diaz has now amassed 11 goals and eight assists from 47 matches in a Liverpool shirt over the past year and a half, winning the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Community Shield in 2022. body check tags ::
