Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has acknowledged that his confidence was not high before his strike against Burnley on New Year's Day.
Mane has found himself in and out of the side this season due to injury and the form of his teammates, but the Senegalese international scored an excellent individual effort in the 2-1 win over the Clarets.
Ahead of the second half of the campaign, Mane has acknowledged that he needed to make an impact as Liverpool look to maintain their form in the Premier League and Europe.
The 25-year-old is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "It was important for myself and the team.
"I am trying to give my best to help the team. At the moment it is not easy, it was very difficult. I think it pushed me up to get more confidence to help the team."
Mane has contributed eight goals and five assists in 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
