Former Liverpool midfielder Terry McDermott backs Jordan Henderson to score "12-15 goals" for the Reds this season.

Terry McDermott has said that he believes Jordan Henderson can fulfill the role previously performed by Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's chief goalscoring midfielder.

Henderson scored just four goals in 35 Premier League appearances in the last campaign, but McDermott reckons that the England international has all the attributes to add more goals to his game.

"Jordan gets into some fantastic positions and his engine is second to none," McDermott told the Liverpool Echo. "Those are key components to scoring goals from midfield and it's a rare talent because you've got to know when is the right time to arrive in the box.

"In his own mind he needs to believe he can score goals and if he does I see no reason why 12-15 goals is not realistic for him.

"He's had that bedding-in period, he had a brilliant season and is almost a regular for England now, so he has to cement that by adding goals to his game.

"Like me he is a box-to-box midfielder and he has a good strike on him so I don't see why not. He has all the ingredients to become one of the great goal-scoring midfielders for this club and next season could be his time to prove that."

McDemott scored 54 goals in 232 appearances in an eight-year spell at Liverpool, during which time he won three European Cups.
