Swansea City manager Garry Monk has expressed his surprise and disappointment at Liverpool's sacking of Brendan Rodgers.
The former Swans manager - who led the side to promotion from the Championship in 2011 - was relieved of his duties at Anfield earlier today after three years in charge of the club, and former Swansea captain Monk believes there is not a better man for the job than his former coach.
"I am surprised at the decision and I cannot believe it," Monk is quoted as saying by Wales Today. "It is a very harsh decision and he did not deserve that at all.
"He is a top manager. You do not know what happens behind closed doors but I am really shocked. I will try and speak to him because you never like to see things like that.
"He did a great job here at Swansea, he was fantastic for us and I am not sure who would do a better job at Liverpool."
Liverpool are currently 10th in the Premier League table, with 12 points from their opening eight matches.
