Manuel Pellegrini: "We deserved a better result"

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that his side deserved a "better result" from their game against Liverpool at Anfield.

Manuel Pellegrini has said that Manchester City did not deserve to lose to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League this afternoon.

City fought back from 2-0 down, but a 78th-minute strike from Philippe Coutinho allowed the home side to extend their lead at the top of the table with a 3-2 victory.

"It was a very pretty match as it was two teams who like to attack. We deserved a better result. We are very unlucky. We played very well second half when there was only one team on the pitch and we had clear chances to win the game," BBC Sport quotes the manager as saying.

"There was just one team inside the pitch in the second half. There was a clear penalty when Martin Skrtel had a handball but I don't think the result today was because of the referee, who had a good game.

"If we win our two games in hand we will be a point behind Liverpool, who still have to play Chelsea. The title does not finish today. We are still going to fight. A lot of things will happen between now and the end of the season."

The result leaves Liverpool five points clear of Chelsea, who are yet to play this weekend, and seven ahead of City, who have two games in hand.
