Jamie Redknapp: 'Former Liverpool players not against Brendan Rodgers'

Jamie Redknapp rejects Brendan Rodgers's suggestion that there is a campaign against him from former Liverpool players.

Jamie Redknapp has disagreed with Brendan Rodgers's suggestions that former Liverpool players are campaigning against him.

The Northern Irishman has come under criticism of late following Liverpool's poor start to the Premier League season.

The Reds had gone four league games without a win until they grabbed a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday.

After the game, Rodgers suggested that the rumours about his job being under threat come from the opinions of ex-players, and while Redknapp refutes the claims, the former Liverpool midfielder has sympathy for the manager.

"I saw that there was a bit in the paper the other day saying that Brendan felt there was a campaign against him, and that he was maybe blaming ex-players for that," Redknapp told the Liverpool Echo. "I don't think that's the case at all, personally. At the end of the day, people are just giving their honest opinions on the team that they care about.

"I can understand why he's had a bit of a go, but he's just got to win games. If he thinks ex-players are against him, if he thinks the Pope is against him, it doesn't matter, he's just got to win football matches. That's the only way he will keep the criticism at bay."

Liverpool face a tough run as they take on Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Chelsea in their next four league games.
