Robbie Fowler has admitted that he is unlikely to continue his career as a professional footballer.
The 38-year-old has not played a competitive fixture since he left Thai side Muangthong United last year.
Having turned out for his former club Liverpool during Steven Gerrard's testimonial match yesterday afternoon, the striker has conceded that his retirement is almost inevitable.
"My career has sort of gone out on a little bit of a whimper to be honest," he told Liverpool's official website.
"I have not really officially retired but this looks like my last game, and where better to do it than a full Anfield for Steven's testimonial, Liverpool's best ever player, in front of these fans.
"It was a fantastic moment for me and one that I'll live with for the rest of my life."
Fowler has also played for Leeds United, Manchester City, Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers, North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.
