Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Steven Gerrard is the best in his position in Europe.
Gerrard's form in a deeper role has seen him earn a nomination for PFA Player of the Year, and Rodgers claims that the England captain does not get enough credit for his performances.
"I think his form sometimes gets lost a wee bit with Steven because his leadership quality in the team is there for all to see," Rodgers told reporters. "We mustn't forget that he's arguably the best in European football in a controlling role at this moment in time.
"You look at the holding players in European football now at the top teams, I wouldn't swap him for any of them, because of what he can give the team."
Liverpool, who currently lead the Premier League, face Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.
