Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has tipped Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to become one of the finest in the country after the two sides played out a 0-0 draw in the Premier League this afternoon.
McCarthy made several important stops to deny the travelling Reds the three points at the Madejski Stadium, and Rodgers, who worked with McCarthy during his time with the Royals, believes that the keeper will eventually prove himself to be one of the best around.
"I know young Alex very well - he's genuinely going to be a top, top keeper," Rodgers told his club's official website.
"To perform like that having been out for so long - it was an absolutely staggering performance. I don't think our players could have done any more. Some of our interchange and creativity today was outstanding.
"Today was a real, creative performance and we had good opportunities, but it just wasn't to be and you've got to give young Alex an incredible amount of credit."
The draw leaves the Reds in seventh in the Premier League.
