Brendan Rodgers has refused to work under a sporting director at Liverpool, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that the Ulsterman insisted on the term during discussions with Anfield officials on Wednesday.
Rodgers is expected to be officially unveiled as Kenny Dalglish's successor in the next 24 hours, following reports that he has agreed a three-year contract with the Reds.
Liverpool will pay Rodgers's former club Swansea City a compensation package of around £5m for the remaining three seasons for which he was contracted.
Louis van Gaal was said to be among the potential candidates for the proposed sporting director role at Anfield.
