Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool made too many mistakes'

Brendan Rodgers declares that Liverpool will look to bounce back following their disappointing 3-1 defeat against West Ham United this evening.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Liverpool are "nowhere near" the level that they expect to be at following their 3-1 defeat against West Ham United.

The Reds found themselves two goals behind with just seven minutes played after making a slow start to the match at Upton Park.

Raheem Sterling's strike on 26 minutes pulled the visitors back into the contest, but West Ham proved too strong for their opponents, adding a third through Morgan Amalfitano late on.

"Overall we never showed the composure that is related to this team," Rodgers told BBC Sport. "We didn't start well. It was disappointing.

"We knew this would be a tough game but we were 2-0 down before we started. I thought we reacted well but we were risking the game at the end and unfortunately for us it was a day of too many mistakes.

"We're nowhere near the levels we expect to be at. The expectancy is raised for us after the last few seasons but at this moment in time we are not there, We will continue to work hard. We'll look to bounce back."

Liverpool, who are 10th in the Premier League table following the defeat, turn their attention to League Cup action in midweek when they host Middlesbrough.
