Rush: 'Carroll will come good'

Ian Rush thinks that Liverpool "believe" in Andy Carroll to be a success at Anfield.

Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes that Andy Carroll will find his form at Anfield despite a lacklustre start to his Reds career.

The 22-year-old, who moved to Merseyside from Newcastle United in January, has been under pressure to live up to his £35m price tag.

"He is a young lad,"The Mirror quotes Rush as saying. "He just moved. Everyone thinks it's easy to make a move to a club like Liverpool, but believe me, it's not that easy. He just needs time to settle in.

"You have to be patient with young players, it is not as simple as them coming in and performing straight away - and the manager knows that. If [Kenny Dalglish plays] Carroll, he will play him because he believes in him. We all believe in him.

"I think they got the right manager to coach him along. Yeah, it is a high price. Andy Carroll didn't ask for that. As a former striker, I believe in him. The manager believes in him. There will be a time, probably this season, when he will be needed. I'm sure he will come good for Liverpool."

The striker has netted four goals in nineteen appearances for the North West side, and has been demoted to the bench for the Reds' recent fixtures.
