Mohamed Salah's goal and assist in the 2-2 draw with Everton on Wednesday night has seen him equal a record only previous set by three Premier League legends.

The Premier League top scorer set up Alexis Mac Allister for Liverpool's equaliser at Goodison Park, before being on hand to prod home their second which looked like it was going to seal all three points for Arne Slot's side.

That was ultimately in vain, though, as James Tarkowski's last-gasp leveller saw Liverpool drop two points in the final minute of injury time.

However, largely thanks to Salah, Liverpool are still a comfortable seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Slot on course to win the title in his first season at the club.

Salah equals Shearer, Van Persie, Henry feat

Salah's two goal involvements means he has now scored 62 goals and provided 38 assists in his last 100 Premier League appearances.

That has seen Salah equal Premier League icons Alan Shearer, Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry in being one of four players to contribute to at least 100 goals in a span of 100 league matches.

A seventh goal in nine games against Everton on Wednesday night took Salah to 22 league goals for the season, and he is now just one shy of hitting the 30-goal mark in all competitions.

Salah is on course to get close to his best Premier League season, which he set in his debut campaign back in 2017-18, when he netted 32 league goals in 36 games, and there is only one other season where he has scored more than his current tally of 22 - 23 in the 2021-22 season.

Could Salah reach Shearer's record?

While reaching Shearer's record of 260 seems rather insurmountable at this stage of Salah's career, he is edging closer to some very notable milestones.

Salah's 179th Premier League goal on Wednesday moved him to within just five goals of Sergio Aguero's record as the highest-scoring foreign player in the competition's history.

That would move the Egyptian into the top five of the all-time top scorers list, and he could soon become just the fourth player to hit 200 goals.

Now aged 32, Salah is 81 goals behind Shearer, so by the law of averages, he would need roughly another four full seasons playing at the same level as he is now to get close to that record.

However, with the Liverpool attacker's future still up in the air, this could very well be his last season at Anfield, despite him having one of his best campaigns to date in a red shirt.
