Mohamed Salah record: Is the Liverpool star the greatest forward in Premier League history ahead of Thierry Henry?

:Headline: Mohamed Salah record: Is the Liverpool star the greatest forward in Premier League history ahead of Thierry Henry?:
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is making a strong claim to be the best forward in Premier League history after scoring his 19th goal of the league season on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah scored his 176th Premier League goal on Saturday afternoon against Ipswich Town at Anfield and surpassed Thierry Henry in the league's all-time scoring charts.

Liverpool beat Ipswich 4-1 and maintained their six-point advantage over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Salah returned to goalscoring ways on Saturday in the 35th minute, finding the back of the net for the first time in three league outings having blanked against Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

The Egyptian is now seventh in the Premier League's scoring charts having overtaken Arsenal legend Henry, and he is just one behind sixth-placed Frank Lampard.

Henry is seen by many as the division's greatest ever attacker given his impressive numbers and dazzling displays, but Salah's consistency has arguably put himself in the conversation alongside the Frenchman.

The astonishing numbers behind Salah's Premier League career

Salah's strike against Ipswich was his 100th Premier League goal at Anfield for Liverpool, and was his 19th of the current season, one more than Erling Haaland and two more than Alexander Isak.

The Reds' winger is only 11 behind fourth-placed Andy Cole in the all-time scorers list, and he is on track to net 13 more times between now and the end of 2024-25.

The 32-year-old has proven that he is more than just a goalscorer, with his 13 assists also the most in the Premier League this term, and he currently ranks 10th in the Premier League's all-time assist charts.

If Salah set up another 10 goals for teammates, then he would equal Steven Gerrard's tally for Liverpool in the top flight and move to eighth in the list.

The winger's exploits this term also saw him surpass Wayne Rooney's record of five seasons scoring and assisting at least 10 times, with 2024-25 the sixth season that Salah has managed the feat.

Is Salah better than Henry?

Though it is difficult to compare forwards from different eras, it is perhaps time that Salah is given similar credit for his body of work in England as Henry has been afforded.

The Arsenal legend's 2002-03 season is regarded as one of the best in the history of the Premier League, with the Gunners forward producing 24 goals and 20 assists in 37 games.

However, Salah only needs seven more assists and one more goal to become the second player to reach at least 20 goals and 20 assists in a single campaign, and there is every chance that he could eclipse both of Henry's tallies.

If the winger was to help guide Liverpool to the Premier League title for a second time, it would undoubtedly help to further cement his legacy as one of the league's greatest ever forwards. body check tags ::
