Vladimir Smicer has called on former club Liverpool to win the Premier League title in order to complete Steven Gerrard's "perfect story".
Club captain Gerrard has won an array of honours during his time at Anfield, but has yet to pick up a top-flight winners' medal.
That could change this season with the Reds currently second in the league table, trailing leaders Chelsea by four points with a game in hand over their rivals.
"Long after my career has finished, [Gerrard] is still playing at such a high level," Smicer, who played alongside the England international during his six years in Merseyside, is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
"I was there when he really established himself in the team and he's still so important to Liverpool. I know how hard he works. He has shown his love for Liverpool over many years. He has had opportunities to go and play for other big clubs but he has always stayed loyal.
"He's a great midfielder and a great leader. He's such a strong character. If there was one reason why I wish they win the title this season it's for Stevie. He deserves it. If he could win the title with Liverpool at this late stage of his career it would be the perfect story."
Gerrard made his Liverpool debut in 1998.
