Tim Cahill: 'Merseyside derby is magical'

Tim Cahill admits that the Merseyside derby "means everything" to him as Everton prepare to host Liverpool this weekend.

Everton forward Tim Cahill has vowed to make an impression in the Merseyside derby if he is passed fit to face Liverpool this weekend.

The Australia international is a doubt for the clash at Goodison Park after suffering a shin injury during his side's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last week.

Despite his injury fears, the 31-year-old is eager to play his part in one of the "biggest" matches in football.

"I think it is one of the biggest [games] other than playing for your country in a World Cup," Cahill told Everton's official website. "The derby is magical. It is not only the day of the game, it is after, it is before, it is the grudges, the banter.

"For those 90 minutes the whole of Liverpool stops and you have countries around the world watching.

"Going into the game, whether you are injured or you have little problems, whatever, it is forgotten. Everything is left on the pitch and for me, coming from Australia, I feel the same sort of attitude."

The Toffees star also admits that the traditional meetings between the city's rivals have become part of his life.

"I don't want to miss a second on the pitch – I want to try to affect it, hence why I've had so much joy in the derbies," he added.

"For the fans and for me it means everything because it is part of my life now."

The two side's go head to head on Everton's home turf at midday on Saturday.
