John Toshack: 'Things aren't right at Liverpool, I can't see it getting better'

John Toshack believes that things are "not quite right" behind the scenes at Liverpool following the backroom shake-up.

Former Liverpool striker John Toshack believes that the club are a long way off improving following the backroom shake-up at Anfield.

The Reds failed to meet their objective of claiming a Champions League spot after finishing sixth in the Premier League this season.

Pressure mounted on Brendan Rodgers's shoulders, but after an end-of-season meeting with the club's American owners, the Northern Irishman kept his job.

Despite Rodgers being safe, his right-hand men Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh were sacked, and Toshack is concerned that there is a lack of harmony behind the scenes.

"It's very unusual that a coach stays on when his backroom staff have been sacked," Toshack told talkSPORT. "There's something not quite right there.

"Liverpool have gone three years without a trophy, I don't remember that happening in my time. Liverpool have still got a hangover from those three goals they conceded against Crystal Palace [last season].

"Incidents like that can make or break a player or manager. I don't see things getting any better at the moment for Liverpool."

The Reds have already brought in three new recruits - James Milner, Danny Ings and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan - all of whom are free transfers.
