Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that Roberto Martinez is in America for discussions with Liverpool's owners.
The Spaniard has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Anfield, with reports claiming that the 38-year-old is due to meet members of Fenway Sports Group, including John W Henry, within the next 36 hours.
"Roberto is in Miami today and you can only assume what he's gone there [to talk to the Liverpool owners]," Whelan told BBC Sport. "I'd expect to hear back from him in the next 48 hours or so."
Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas was also believed to be a strong contender to be announced as Kenny Dalglish's successor but the Latics coach has become the frontrunner to nab the spot at Anfield.
