Swansea and Liverpool play to a goalless draw at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City and Liverpool played out a goalless draw in the Premier League this afternoon, despite both sides having good chances to score throughout the match.

Swansea had the first goalscoring opportunity through a curling Wayne Routledge strike, Pepe Reina having to make a save.

Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson both squandered chances at the other end for the visitors.

Enrique did find the back of the net but had the effort disallowed after he was judged to be offside.

After the break, Swansea had the best of the early opportunities.

Pablo Hernandez won a free kick on the edge of the box, but struck it high.

Liverpool upped the pace at the hour mark, with Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard linking up, each calling Gerhard Tremmel into action in the space of a couple of minutes.

Swansea appealed for a penalty in the 65th minute when Routledge was brought down on the edge of the area by Daniel Agger, but the referee turned them down.

There was a second claim four minutes later, when substitute Nathan Dyer takes a shot that appeared to get deflected by Stuart Downing's arm.

The medical staff for both teams were called into action when Dyer and Reina collided in the box, but the pair were able to continue after treatment.

Liverpool brought on Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole with just over ten minutes of the game remaining as they chased a winning goal.

The home side had their third penalty shout of the half as Agger brought Michu down.

Swansea had a good chance late on with a free kick just outside the penalty area, but Hernandez's strike was well saved by Reina.

Both sides pressed for a winner in the closing minutes, but were thwarted by a mix of good goalkeeping and poor finishing.

A point moves Liverpool up to 11th, while Swansea go above Fulham and Tottenham into eighth.
