Liverpool record a 2-0 win over Olympiacos in Steven Gerrard's testimonial at Anfield.

Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win over Olympiacos in Steven Gerrard's testimonial match at Anfield on Saturday.

It was Liverpool who created the first chance of the match after three minutes, but Joe Allen could only flash his effort across the face of goal after good work from Kolo Toure.

Allen turned provider moments later when the Welsh midfielder slid a pass to Iago Aspas inside the box, but the former Celta Vigo striker could not find an effort on target on his Anfield debut.

The Reds had the lead after 23 minutes when Allen capitalised on a cross-shot from Raheem Sterling before tapping into an empty net from close range.

Gerrard had two golden opportunities to open his account in the latter stages of the half, but the England midfielder was twice denied by Balazs Megyeri in the Olympiacos goal.

The away side's best chance of the half fell to Alejandro Dominguez, but the midfielder could only fire his effort wide of the target as the Greek side continued to struggle.

Philippe Coutinho came close to adding Liverpool's second early in the second period when he danced into the box before firing an effort towards the bottom corner, but it just went wide of the post.

It was 2-0 just past the hour mark, however, when Jordan Henderson drilled a low effort into the bottom corner just moments after entering the field.

Luis Suarez and former striker Robbie Fowler both entered in the latter stages of the match, with the latter coming close to finding the back of the net from a long-range effort.

Gerrard departed to a standing ovation in the final stages, but his side could not add to the scoring as goals from Allen and Henderson separated the two teams at the final whistle.
