Report: Liverpool board split on Brendan Rodgers's future

The Liverpool board is reportedly split down the middle on whether to sack manager Brendan Rodgers after a slow start to the season.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have reportedly held crisis talks on the future of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers and been unable to reach a unanimous verdict on whether the Northern Irishman should be sacked.

Rodgers's side are winless in four Premier League matches and have only scored four goals in six league games all season to lie 13th in the table.

Their form has not been much better in other competitions either. In the Europa League they started the group stage with a 1-1 draw at Bordeaux, while in the League Cup they needed a penalty shootout to beat League Two opposition in Carlisle United last night.

According to talkSPORT, the board has held talks over the manager and the directors are split down the middle on whether to end Rodgers's three-year reign or stick by the former Swansea City boss.

If Liverpool fail to beat Aston Villa at home on Saturday, it might be the end for Rodgers with Liverpool's next seven league fixtures a difficult run against Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Swansea City.

Former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the Anfield post and is reportedly interested in ending his sabbatical for a Premier League job if a suitable position becomes available.
