Jordan Henderson: Liverpool "ready" to win trophies after pain of 2014

Jordan Henderson has "every confidence" that Liverpool's current crop have what it takes to go one better than 2014 by winning the Premier League title.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has insisted that his side are now well positioned to win trophies on a regular basis, more than four years on from coming agonisingly close to lifting the Premier League.

The Reds slipped away in the final three games of the 2013-14 campaign to squander their best chance of claiming top-flight silverware since 1990.

That was also the last season Liverpool beat Manchester United in a league match, but victory over their arch-rivals on Sunday will move them back to the top of the table, a point in front of champions Manchester City.

Henderson, who was suspended for the final run-in six seasons ago, admits that the pain of coming so close is something that he is not fully over.

"That is something I have had to live with," he told The Telegraph. "I feel we're ready [this time]. We definitely have the potential to win trophies.

"I have every confidence with the talent that we've got and the people in the dressing room that we can go and produce trophies in the very near future and hopefully it's this season."

Liverpool have made their best-ever start to a season and the sixth-best ever achieved in the top flight of English football by any side.
