Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's expiring contracts for this season and next.

While Jurgen Klopp lapped up most of the fanfare as he took his Liverpool leave, some attention turned to the Reds players who will not be continuing their careers under Arne Slot.

The Merseyside giants managed to reclaim their status as Premier League title challengers in 2023-24, but not all will be around to witness the post-Klopp transition.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the Liverpool players whose contracts either expire at the end of June, or in the summer of 2025.

Which Liverpool players are out of contract this summer?

Joel Matip

Age: 32
Position: Centre-back
Transfer value: £6.8m
Joined: July 1, 2016
Joining fee: Free
Liverpool appearances: 201
Liverpool goals: 11

Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • FA Cup (1): 2021-22

  • EFL Cup (1): 2021-22

  • Community Shield (1): 2022

  • Champions League (1): 2018-19

  • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2019

  • DFB-Pokal (1): 2010-11

  • German Super Cup (1): 2011-12

  • During Liverpool's final match of the 2023-24 Premier League season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Joel Matip was given an emotional send-off as eight years at Anfield came to an end.

The Cameroonian was a stalwart of Klopp's teams of old, winning both the Champions League and Premier League, but a severe ACL injury ruined his final campaign in Liverpool colours.

    Thiago Alcantara

    Age: 33
    Position: Midfielder
    Transfer value: £8.6m
    Joined: September 18, 2020
    Joining fee: £18.8m
    Liverpool appearances: 98
    Liverpool goals: 3

    Honours

  • Bundesliga (7): 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20

  • Community Shield (1): 2022

  • Champions League (2): 2010-11, 2019-20

  • UEFA Super Cup (2): 2011-12, 2013-14

  • DFB-Pokal (4): 2013-14, 2015-16, 2018-19, 2019-20

  • Club World Cup (2): 2011-12, 2013-14

  • Thiago Alcantara's departure from Liverpool was confirmed on the same morning as Matip's exit, as the Spaniard prepares to take his leave on the back of four injury-hit seasons on Merseyside.

The ex-Bayern Munich and Barcelona man proved his worth to the Reds when fully fit, but he was restricted to just 98 games for the club, including only one in his last year.

    Adrian

    Age: 37
    Position: Goalkeeper
    Transfer value: £513,000
    Joined: August 5, 2019
    Joining fee: Free
    Liverpool appearances: 26
    Liverpool goals: 0

    Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • FA Cup (1): 2021-22

  • Club World Cup (1): 2019-20

  • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2019

  • While Thiago and Matip's departures were both announced within an hour of each other, there was no official confirmation of Adrian's exit at the end of his contract.

However, the 37-year-old goalkeeper has confirmed that he plans to seek a move elsewhere this summer and is particularly keen on a return to Spain.

Which Liverpool players are out of contract next summer?

    Mohamed Salah

    Age: 31
    Position: Winger
    Transfer value: £47m
    Joined: July 1, 2017
    Joining fee: £35.9m
    Liverpool appearances: 349
    Liverpool goals: 211

    Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • FA Cup (1): 2021-22

  • EFL Cup (3): 2014-15, 2021-22, 2023-24

  • Community Shield (1): 2022

  • Champions League (1): 2018-19

  • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2019

  • Club World Cup (1): 2019-20

  • Swiss Super League (2): 2012-13, 2013-14

  • Barely a month goes by without a new story on the future of Mohamed Salah, who could walk away from the Reds for nothing in 2025 and saw his future plunged into even more uncertainty during his touchline row with Klopp.

However, the Egypt international is expected to remain on the books for the 2024-25 season, meaning that a new contract should almost certainly be in the pipeline.

    Virgil van Dijk

    Age: 32
    Position: Centre-back
    Transfer value: £25.7m
    Joined: January 1, 2018
    Joining fee: £72.4m
    Liverpool appearances: 270
    Liverpool goals: 23

    Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • FA Cup (1): 2021-22

  • EFL Cup (2): 2021-22, 2023-24

  • Community Shield (1): 2022

  • Champions League (1): 2018-19

  • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2019

  • Club World Cup (1): 2019-20

  • Scottish Premiership (2): 2013-14, 2014-15

  • Scottish League Cup (1): 2014-15

  • Another fundamental Liverpool cog out of contract in 2025, Van Dijk added fuel to the fire surrounding his future when he admitted that he did not know what would lie in store after Klopp's exit.

The Dutchman has since clarified his comments, though, and the Reds are planning for life with Van Dijk donning the captain's armband for 2024-25.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold

    Age: 25
    Position: Right-back
    Transfer value: £59.8m
    Joined: 2004
    Joining fee: Free
    Liverpool appearances: 310
    Liverpool goals: 19

    Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • FA Cup (1): 2021-22

  • EFL Cup (2): 2021-22, 2023-24

  • Community Shield (1): 2022

  • Champions League (1): 2018-19

  • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2019

  • Club World Cup (1): 2019-20

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold's contract now has a little over 12 months to run too, and the right-back - also capable of doing a job in midfield - is thought to have attracted the attention of Real Madrid.

There are few doubts about the 25-year-old's future, though, and Liverpool are confident that a renewal will go through without a hitch.

    Nat Phillips

    Age: 27
    Position: Centre-back
    Transfer value: £3m
    Joined: August 1, 2016
    Joining fee: Free
    Liverpool appearances: 29
    Liverpool goals: 1

    Honours

  • Premier League (1): 2019-20

  • EFL Cup (1): 2021-22

  • Scottish Premiership (1): 2023-24

  • Alongside Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips excelled as an emergency centre-back in the 2020-21 season but has failed to kick on since, enduring loan spells elsewhere with mixed success.

Before departing the Reds for nothing in 2025, the Englishman is expected to be sold for a nominal fee this summer in search of regular game time elsewhere.
