Ashley Cole's agent has revealed that the left-back has held negotiations with "clubs based abroad" in recent days.
The defender, who was released by Chelsea at the end of last season, has been heavily linked with a switch to Italian side Roma this weekend.
While his representative Jonathan Barnett stopped short of naming names, he did confirm that the 33-year-old had not yet met with another English club.
"The situation is that we are talking to several clubs. At the moment it is only clubs based abroad - there may be other developments, but for the moment, that is all we are talking," Barnett is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
Liverpool are also said to have considered making an approach for the former England international.
