Barcelona are reportedly keen to part ways with Philippe Coutinho in January as they bid to avoid more payouts to Liverpool.
While Barcelona shelled out a large portion of the £142m fee for Coutinho up front, some of the money is due to be paid in instalments and add-ons.
Given the current financial situation at Camp Nou, club officials have been continuing with attempts to sell the Brazilian playmaker as soon as possible.
According to Sport, they wish to ensure that Coutinho does not reach 100 appearances, the amount which would trigger another clause in his contract.
With Coutinho currently on 88 outings for the Catalan giants, Liverpool would receive an extra £18.2m if he features on 12 more occasions.
The issue effectively leaves manager Ronald Koeman having to manage Coutinho's game time unless a resolution can be found.
