Damien Comolli: 'Liverpool making same mistakes'

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli says that the Reds are making the same errors in the transfer window as they did last year.

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has claimed that the club are making the same mistakes in the transfer market as last season.

The Reds have added seven new players to their ranks this summer, with the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £49m funding most of their deals.

Comolli has admitted his concern that the Merseysiders are making too many changes ahead of the new campaign.

"It is always a big risk to make so many changes during one transfer window," he told the Irish Independent.

"I thought it was a huge risk last year after selling Suarez and bringing in, I think, nine. Now they have decided to change a lot again and totally rebuild. That is always a massive, massive risk. They have bought in players who have got talent, but they are going to compete against some very settled teams.

"Arsenal, United, City and Chelsea are making subtle adjustments to their squad and Liverpool are changing everything every year. I'm not convinced it is the right approach. It is too much in two off-seasons."

Christian Benteke, James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne are among the players that Liverpool have signed so far.
