Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car has revealed that he turned down an offer to move to Liverpool in the January transfer window.
The Reds left it late to bring in defensive reinforcements last month, but they eventually secured the signatures of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on transfer deadline day.
At a time when Jurgen Klopp will likely have to cope without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for the remainder of the season, Caleta-Car has confirmed that the Premier League champions approached him, but he elected to stay with Marseille.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash with Nice, the Croatia international said: "Today, there is the Champions League, and I am going to watch the two games, I received an offer from Liverpool.
"It was an honour for me to know that such a club wanted me. We decided with the club that I was going to stay. Marseille is also a great club and I still have a lot of improving to do here."
Caleta-Car has scored twice in 21 top-flight Ligue 1 appearances for Les Olympiens this term, and he could shake off an injury in time to face Nice on Wednesday.
