Shaun Goater has admitted that Manchester City have agreed to pay over the odds for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling.
Recent speculation has suggested that the England winger, who has been tipped to undergo a medical at the Etihad Stadium today, will cost the Citizens £49m.
However, Goater has told his former club that the 20-year-old is worth up to "£15m" less than that.
"In my estimation I think we've paid £10m or £15m too much. But saying that if he brings the trophies then it will be money well spent," he told Sky Sports News.
"He's awesome when he gets the ball with pace and goes through two or three players. One thing I'd like to see is produce a bit more goals, he has not been prolific in that point of view."
Should the deal go through, Sterling will become the most expensive English footballer of all time.
