Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not expecting his side to bring in any more signings during the January transfer window.

The Reds splashed out £37m to bring Cody Gakpo to the club from PSV Eindhoven, and the deal could rise to as much as £44m with performance-related add-ons.

Liverpool beat Manchester United to the signature of the 23-year-old, who made his debut for the club in last weekend's FA Cup draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gakpo is now poised for his maiden Premier League outing against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, but Liverpool have been facing calls to bolster their squad further in the current window.

The Reds opted against spending big on a new midfielder in the summer, instead signing Arthur on loan from Juventus, but they have been linked with a number of lynchpins during the winter months.

Benfica's Enzo Fernandez, Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo and Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat have been mentioned as potential targets, with a nine-figure move for Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham unlikely to come to fruition until the summer.

Roger Schmidt has since ruled out the prospect of Fernandez leaving Benfica this month, but Klopp was unsurprisingly questioned on arrivals in Friday's pre-Brighton press conference.

However, the Reds boss has insisted that the transfer market is "not the solution" for his injury-ravaged side and believes that Gakpo will likely be the only addition that his side make this month.

"I don't think so," Klopp responded when asked if Liverpool would sign any more players in January. "My job is to use the boys we have. That's it. You cannot solve all problems in a transfer window.

"It is like it is. I'm not there constantly, my job is to use the boys we have. Up front we don't have five options and if we do, they are very young. In a dream land, you would buy players, but I don't see that coming."

When pressed on the matter further, an irritated Klopp claimed that his side simply need to hold out until their treatment room empties, adding: "I think I've had 6,000 press conferences at Liverpool. If you want to write about this, come on.

"Come on, do I need to tell you again the money story? Why ask the question? We just have to get through until the boys come back (from injury). The transfer market for us in this moment is not the solution."

Liverpool could have no fewer than six players unavailable for Saturday's trip to Brighton, with Virgil van Dijk (hamstring), Arthur (thigh), Luis Diaz (knee), Diogo Jota (calf) and Roberto Firmino (calf) all guaranteed to miss out.

The Reds' attacking injury crisis has gone from bad to worse after Darwin Nunez missed training earlier this week with an unspecified issue, and Klopp is unsure if the problem will rule him out of Saturday's game.

Liverpool enter the weekend seventh in the Premier League table, seven points behind Manchester United in the final Champions League place and at risk of losing their first two league games of a calendar year for the first time since 1993. body check tags ::
