Kalvin Phillips 'keen to stay with Manchester City this summer'

Kalvin Phillips wants to stay at Manchester City this summer amid interest from Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham United, according to a report.

Kalvin Phillips is reportedly ready to reject interest from a number of clubs in order to stay with Manchester City beyond the end of this summer's transfer window.

The England international has struggled for action during the 2022-23 campaign, only making 17 appearances in all competitions, with almost all of those coming from the bench.

Phillips has only started twice for Pep Guardiola's side this season - once in the EFL Cup and once in the FA Cup - with all eight of his Premier League appearances coming off the bench.

The midfielder has played just 39 minutes of Champions League football this term, meanwhile, with a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.

There has been a host of recent speculation surrounding the 27-year-old's future, with Aston Villa, West Ham United and Liverpool among the clubs said to be interested in signing him this summer.

However, according to Football Insider, Phillips wants to stay with Man City for the 2023-24 campaign, as he is confident of forcing his way into the side.

The report claims that 'better things are expected' of the midfielder next season, with the player believing that he will secure more regular action in his second campaign with the club.

Jack Grealish found it difficult to make his mark for the Citizens during his first season at the Etihad Stadium, but the Englishman has thrived this term, and Phillips is said to be looking to kick on in a similar manner after acclimatising to life at the club.

Phillips's form for Leeds United had made him one of the most in-demand midfielders in the Premier League last summer, with Man City ultimately winning the race for his signature.

The Englishman's chances of receiving more regular action would be boosted if Ilkay Gundogan left the Etihad Stadium this summer, with the midfielder's contract due to expire next month.

However, Man City have allegedly set aside funds to bring two new midfielders to the club this summer.

Phillips has only played one minute of league football for Guardiola's side since the middle of last month, but he will hope to be involved in Sunday's contest with Everton at Goodison Park.

There are expected to be changes to the Man City XI this weekend following the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, with the second leg of the clash taking place next Wednesday.

The Citizens are currently just one point clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, although they also have a game in hand on the Gunners. body check tags ::
