Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach's Florian Neuhaus as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum's contract situation at Anfield remains unresolved, and as things stand the Barcelona-linked midfielder will be able to walk away for free in the summer.
While there is still faint optimism that a new contract could be agreed for the Netherlands international before his deal runs out in June, Liverpool are reportedly making contingency plans for his possible departure.
According to German outlet Kicker, Neuhaus is one of the names on Jurgen Klopp's shortlist, but the Liverpool boss will have to fend off serious competition to land his compatriot.
The report adds that the 23-year-old, who boasts four goals and four assists from 19 Bundesliga appearances this season, is also being watched closely by Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester City.
Neuhaus's current deal at Monchengladbach does not expire until 2024, and Liverpool are also understood to have earmarked his teammate Denis Zakaria as another potential signing if Wijnaldum departs.
