Liverpool have reportedly been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan this summer.
The Reds are understood to have identified the 27-year-old as a potential transfer target when the window reopens, but Inter are keen to keep him at San Siro.
Italian outlet Calciomercato claims that the Nerazzurri have offered Brozovic a new contract but are currently short of the midfielder's wage demands.
The Croatia international's current terms see him earn around £3m per year and he is holding out for an offer which would see that salary rise to around £5.2m.
However, Inter have reportedly only tabled a two-year extension worth £3.9m per year plus add-ons.
Brozovic's contract at San Siro is currently due to expire in 2022, although he has a £53m release clause which Liverpool are considering triggering.
Brozovic has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and creating five more.
