Liverpool had a bid for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain rejected earlier this summer, according to reports.
The 26-year-old is said to be unsettled in Italy and eager to leave the San Paolo for a fresh start.
The Daily Star claims that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers made an official approach for the Argentina star before the close of the transfer window.
Despite apparently offering £22m plus Lucas Leiva, Napoli turned the bid down, which prompted the Anfield outfit to sign Mario Balotelli instead.
Higuain, who joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013, is also alleged to be on Arsenal's radar.
